The "Other" Legacy of Pres. Osme
Aside from our political independence in 1946 and our democratic form of government, Pres. Osme has one other legacy very few among us know. This is the major role he played in widening the base of our educational system by adopting a program that had built, for the Filipinos more schools, hired more teachers and got more Filipino youngsters to enrole in the primary and elementary grades. Pres. Osmena also started Filipinizing textbooks, and encouraged and promoted adult education among Filipinos.
More than any other legacy that Pres. Osmena has left to the Filipinos, it is this legacy on education which inspired the founders of College Assurance Plan to perpetuate the memory of this great man whose genuine concern for the education of the youth was as strong and as obsessed as that of CAP's founders.
